This painting was different from all the others in that it took over a year to complete. It was started in the winter of 1989 and then placed on hold for a year.  I debated starting over and scrapping it all together but in spring of 1990 I worked upon it for another two weeks and was pleasantly surprised with the outcome.

The initial concept of this piece was to create a hidden place, a special almost sacred place where nature and spirituality meet in perfect harmony.  Once again this was a painting which seemed to unfold itself before my eyes.

When placed on hold only the distant background and the tree on the island were completed.  During the spring of 1990 the painting took over once more.  Little stars appeared swirling around the glowing white tree followed by the unfoldment of the central aspect of the painting, the illuminating pink-white star.

After studying the completed painting I began to interpret a specific message for this piece.  A star (the symbol of perfection for me) has come down to the earth to help encourage and celebrate the white tree.  This star is like a beacon as it hovers over the water, bathing all stones, trees and vegetation with its permeating white light.

The little tree is also symbolic in that it stands for one who has separated itself from the masses and by its endeavours has gained "Enlightenment".  This "tree" has arranged its branches in perfect order, and its thoughts have become of perfect clarity and purpose.

The tree is similar to the star, it radiates light in all directions and its a literal shining example to the other trees of what they might become.  The large star with all its majestic stature and heavenly presence is enlightening the entire countryside, delivering a message of inspiration and of a greater power and purpose in life.
