Harold Diachina

I was born in Victoria, ( Vancouver Island ) British Columbia, Canada.  My interest in art first emerged in the mid 1970s, and this enjoyable pastime flourished into a full-time fascination.  I have been painting professionally since 1983, and presently my works reside within numerous private collections throughout the world.  During my formative years, a great deal of time was spent on camping, canoeing, and fishing; this time helped me acquire a close tie to nature which is evident in my work today.

The early part of my career was devoted to sketching (for two years), which progressed to painting with oils (for two years).  Now, I work exclusively in acrylics.  I am entirely self-taught and as a result my work is quite unique both in style and subject matter.

The early years consisted of mainly miniature paintings.  It was from these years of painting miniature that I developed the ability to paint in great clarity and detail, while learning the composition and themes which has helped to make my artwork thought provoking.

More recently my work have consisted of creating natural settings, into which elements of fantasy and spirituality are interwoven.  I prefer to create works from my own inspirations.  I have found art is at its best when it comes from the heart.  Therefore, I decline commissions but I am open to general inquiries.  There are other paintings not currently displayed within my Web Gallery, feel free to contact me perhaps I have something that may interest you.

I believe there is too much conflict and strife in people's everyday life, therefore, I enjoy painting scenes that put people at ease.  I try to create a setting people can look upon and disappear into, and hopefully experience the calming and renewing qualities nature possesses.

Nature has helped nurture and inspire many aspects of my artistic creations.  I have lived a nomadic life, traveling and residing in the wilderness locations of Canada.  Nature performs profound humbling creations on a daily basis, and I prefer to observe and absorb her works before I begin painting.

Remote untouched wilderness speaks with ageless wisdom, endures with perfect patience, and exists in an eternal ebb and flow of balance and grace.

A day, week or month might be spent living within each location.  I prefer to see a change in weather, combined with first light, daylight, or the still of night. These transformations reveal fleeting beauty, which might otherwise go un-witnessed.  Countless magical moments have taken place before my eyes, and it is these moments which have inspired my heartfelt creations.

I may paint a scene from a starting point of reality but my greatest concern is to create, or rather to “Recreate” the instilled feeling of awe and mystery.  Nature speaks with the tiniest of voices but with perfect clarity.  Light is the truth which reveals all. I enjoy the textures and transformations that take place as the sun rises, sets or is reflected by the moon down to earth.

In the early morning mist, upon mountain lakes, or deep within an old growth forest I have observed. Walking at midnight in a heavy winter snow fall, enveloped in the feathery touch of silent grace filled offerings, or staring deep into the blue-green of forest streams I have absorbed, and felt the same source of wonder.

My pleasure and my purpose in life is to recreate these moments in permanent fine art miniature testimonials, proof of the beauty and truth to be found within the realms of nature .
